3rd - 6th Class

Mrs. McGillicuddy's Class

There are 27 children in Mrs. McGillicuddy's Room. There are 9 children in 2nd class, 12 children in 3rd class and 6 children in 4th class. We do lots of work and have fun in our very busy classroom.
We complete lovely art work and enjoy the music we do with our teacher.

Library Visit

The 3rd and 4th class recently visited Athenry Library. There they listened to story teller Niall de Búrca. They really enjoyed the stories. Before they left they got to borrow books from the library.

 

Mr. Burke's Class

There are 29 children in Mr. Burke's Room. There are 7 children from 4th class, 10 children in 5th class and 12 children in 6th class. We work hard, enjoy school and get on well together.
We like being in the senior room. We are responsible and often do extra tasks and jobs to help the younger children and the teachers. We are the oldest children in the school and we lead by example.
Project work and the use of computers are important in the senior classes. History, geography and science are interesting subjects that we like to study.

The Science of Sound

We investigated sound as a form of energy. We know that sounds are made from shaking air. We made string telephones and instruments

Mask Making

We made masks from paper maché. We let them dry and then we painted them for Halloween.

School Museum

We brought in artefacts from our homes and attics! Our grandparents were very generous with some old items that were valuable to them. We examined them and explored their uses. We had an old washboard,old tools, sewing machine, typewriter, radio and milk churns to name but a few of the items in our collection. We had a selection of camera and we took photographs of them with our digital camera.

Art Work

We painted a city scene with cool colours. We added stars and a moon for effect with silver paint.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

St.Brigid Crosses

We worked together to make St. Brigid's crosses in our classes. Everybody go to take home one for their families and their grandparents. We worked hard at them and they came out very well.

Grandparent's Day

We had plenty of visitors to our school on Grandparent's Day. Everybody took part in a prayer service. We all had a chat and it was a great day!

Quiz Competition

The school entered two teams into the Credit Union Quiz Competition. The quz was held in the Raheen Woods in March. Both teams performed well and enjoyed the experience.

Handwriting Competition

The children participated in a handwriting competition. The photograph shows our winners. The entries have been forwarded to the INTO national competition.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Swimming Lessons

The children attended swimming lessons for seven weeks in the Kingfisher Swimming Pool. They were awarded Certificates for participation.

Gardening

Mr.Burke took the girls from 5th 6th and 4th to the garden to plant some vegtables.  We like to plant and we all hope it all grows well. We planted cabbage, carrots, potatoes onions and turnips and we also planted sunflowers.

 

Coaching with Declan Connolly

We had Kilimordaly and Galway County hurler Declan Connolly train the boy's and girls for an hour.We learnt some skills, and had a great time!!!

Knitting

Mrs. Noone who taught in Esker N.S. for many years stll returns to teach the children how to knit. She is pictured here with some of the boys and girls with the teddies that they knitted at school.
